Pomona Carousel
New reader and contributor extraodinaire, Ren, took today's photo of a real live carousel that is located somewheres in Pomona. Anyone know where it is - besides Richard that is? It makes a nice President's Day photo for the blog.
I heard there used to be a carousel at Lincoln Park. Is this it? The only blurb I found on the internet was about the Prospect Hotel Carousel:
fom the Carousel History Page:
"Prospect Hotel Carousel
Location - Prospect Hotel
Builder / Carver - Illions
Years Operated - 1927
Type - 4 abreast "Supreme"
Illions moved this carousel to Celeron Amusement Park in Jamestown, New York. It was later sold to the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, California. It was dismantled in the 1980's and the machine is in storage in Pasadena."
Also...According to Ren, there used to be a sign above Holt between Indian Hill and Mills that said, "Welcome to Pomona, Home of the L.A. County Fair." He and Mickey Gallivan are trying to find a photograph of the sign, in order to recreate it. I'm not sure how many old timers log on here, but does anyone happen to have a photo of the old sign, or know where they might turn?

pretty cool uncle rich!!!
My guess: is the carousel at Lanterman Developmental Center?
And the trophy goes to...pomonamom! She is right that the carousel is located inside the Lanterman Developmental Center. I've never seen it myself, but Richard says it's at Freedom Park on Crescent Dr. He think that anyone can go in since there's a foothill transit bus stop right there.
There are apparently some great old buildings and trees around there too. Richard says it is also the location of a Burt Lancaster film.
AS always, I invite all winners the chance to be a guest poster on the blog. So far, no one has taken me up on the offer.
