Weekly Roundup

So here's a reminder of what's going on in the community this week, since a lot of the Summer programs are now starting up:

Wednesday
Today at 3:30 p.m. at the Pomona Public Library downtown they will be hosting Abbit the Average's Magic Show. Also, the summer reading program has begun, so you can sign up while you're there.

The Pomona Unified School District's Mommy and Me classes start this week. They are held at Jaycee Park and Diamond Point Elementary. You can get more information about them on the School District's website under "Adult Education" and then "Family Interactive," or you can just show up one morning at either of the locations. The website is at the top of my link's section.

The Claremont's Children's Wednesday Night Concert series kicks off tonight July 5 and goes through July 26. These are held at the Memorial Park Bombshell at 7:00 p.m and are free. For info: http://www.ci.claremont.ca.us/ps.leisurerecreation.cfm?ID=57. Looks like we'll caravan to the Bombshell again tonight (was just there yesterday for the Fourth of July Festival, complete with Uncle Sam on stilts and hot dogs sold by the Knights and Ladies of Colombus. The festival pleasantly suprised me by being more old fashioned and spirited than I had pictured. This will definitely be a yearly tradition for us. Of course next year I'm hoping Mr. Big will allow us to walk within 25 feet of the "scarey" Uncle Sam on stilts.

Thursday
On Thursday, the Huntington Library in Pasadena is FREE, that's ALL DAY.

Musical Thursday Evenings at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont begin Thursday night and are held every Thursday evenings in July at 6:30 pm. Donation requested. Call 625-8767 or go to their site, listed in my links section.

Friday
On Friday morning, children's yoga classes at Inner Works Wellness start up for the summer. Classes are from 10:45 to noon for 6 weeks. Cost will be $10 a class, so you don't have to commit to all the classes. No, it's not free, but it is teaching your child a life long skill. It's located on Monte Vista, three driveways above Foothill on the east side. http://www.innerworkswellness.com/public_html/schedule.html

And then on Friday evening, it's the Claremont First Friday of the Month Art and Music Walk from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. where you and your strolling or hand holding child can hear everything from bluegrass, peruvian flutes, jazz to country, depending on the street corner, as well as look at arty things.

If you feel like something cooler, try the air conditioned Chino Youth Museum's Free First Friday Event from 5 to 8 p.m. at D and 6th Streets in Downtown Chino. For more info: http://www.chinoyouthmuseum.org

Saturday
Then on Saturday, there's the Pomona Farmer's Market at Pearl and Garey in the morning, and the Pomona Second Saturday of the Month Art Walk at night from 6 to 9 p.m.

All these events have been profiled in detail earlier in the blog. So ride 'em cowboy and enjoy the rest of the week, and don't be telling me there's nuthin to do in the 'hood.
