I live on a nearby street where we do not get nearly as many trick or treaters. From what I hear, Jefferson gets upwards of 1500 tricker treaters, not to mention all the double and triple dippers. We're Pomonans after all! This year, thanks to a tip from another Lincoln Park mom, I shopped Pomona for my Halloween candy: 100 individually-wrapped gummy fangs for 99 cents a box at the 99 Cent Store on Foothill just west of Garey. I dare anyone to beat that deal, or the probable toxicity of the ingredients.
Mr. Big went as Dr. Who (the 11th doctor) this year, thanks to Quality Thrift Store down on Easterly Holt Avenue (not sure if it's in Montclair or Pomona). Quality is hands-down the best thrift store in the area. Be sure to have them text you a discount coupon while you're there.
Even empowered as Dr. Who, Mr. Big refused to go to a certain house on the 300 block of Jefferson where teenagers have been known to chase little ones down the street with chain saws. He seems to have been permanently traumatized by that. But as scary as Halloween in Lincoln Park can be, our Pomona city government is still the scariest trick about living in Pomona. If only the city government were as child-friendly, creative and community-building as Halloween in Lincoln Park. Now that would be a real treat!

We had roughly 2500-2800 pieces of candy at our home on Jefferson....one piece at a time distribution....everything was gone by 9:00. Just another year in Lincoln Park.
I will have to say how amazed we all are that it goes as smoothly as it does (and the street closure this year worked like a charm; much safer for everyone). Its a whole lot of people, and for the most part, they are courteous and grateful for the whole thing. We put a lot of effort into decorating, and its all pretty much an uncoordinated event that we do because we love to do it, but also because this is probably an event these kids will nostalgically recall for the rest of their lives. Happy Halloween!
Yeah, we had 700 pieces with one piece distribution, and closed down two separate times to go trick or treating, and were still out of candy by 8:30. And that's on one of the less popular, well okay fuddy duddy blocks. :(
It is amazing that such a giant street party goes off without a hitch. Another one of Pomona's best kept secrets!
My mistake I thought the street was closed off last year as well.
Depends on the block. While I was out of the area on business, I heard that my block (east of the park) was not festive at all. It really depends on the culture of the neighborhood, because once one person goes festive the rest either follow or that one person sticks out like a sore thumb and it dies on the vine. In the past my block was better, but not anymore due to residential turnover and foreclosures.
