A Pomona Drive-by Revisited

Here's another post from the past in celebration of the blog's two year birthday!

We all read about the drive-bys IN Pomona, but what about the drive bys ON Pomona? No one keeps statistics on the number of pot shots we take from the local, regional, national and, for all I know, international press. The incidence of drive bys ON Pomona, is much higher than the number of drive bys IN Pomona.

So it should be no suprise that Pomona has been hit with a full frontal assault by an out-of-town blogger. The "King of Bash" recently spent a day in Pomona and lived to blog about it. He posted this photo essay of his Wednesday visit to Pomona. It's aptly entitled "Pomona Hit Job." I'll warn you Pomonans ahead of time that it's pretty brutal. But we're tough, we can take it; half of us have been to prison after all.

Bash made me laugh and he was actually spot on about a few aspects of our city, but overall the dude is clearly pretty sheltered, and just not an urbanite. I don't think the comments section after his post did Pomona any favors though.

There are some hauntingly good photographs of Pomona on Flickr by local photographers *Mike . I guess I expected a few similar images of "urban blight as high art" from Bash. Bash also missed Pomona's Lincoln Park Historic District completely -- the largest collection of vintage homes on the National Historic Registry with 745 contributing structures.

Unfortunately, Bash has vowed to never return to Pomona. And I suppose that means he won't be purchasing one of these either. So long, Bash. We hardly knew 'ye. And vice versa (which is my main point).

THE END

It's funny that you revisit this post. I recently discovered that post of his on my own a few days ago, I had no Idea you posted about it. I had the same reaction as you did. I snickered at the comments that were left and tried to do justice for Pomona. If I didn't, oh well...It doesn;t change the great things about Pomona.

The reason for his dyspepsia is revealed at the end. Better men than him have felt pissy about places where they dropped their phones into their beers.

Bash should stay at home & blow himself.
Then go buy a new phone.
