Thank you, Crosswalk Gods

Since before the holidays (that's over 3 months ago), there has been no crosswalk to use if going into Lincoln Park from the west side. When I first noticed that the existing crosswalk at the end of Lincoln had been painted over (with black paint), I assumed this was a temporary - as in a couple days- situation until a new crosswalk was put in there, or close by. As month after month passed, I realized that it appeared no new crosswalk was going to go in. Each day, I vowed to call the City the next day, but each "next day" I forgot. While each "same day," Mr. Big and I were forced to cross the street without the protection of a crosswalk.

Finally, in late February, I did get around to making some calls and sending some emails. I am happy to announce that the powers-that-be have finally made a new crosswalk for those of us with kids and/or lives, who live west of the park. I don't write this to take the credit for the crosswalk, but more to thank Councilwoman Lantz, my block captain (who will remain anonymous since I do the blog anonymously) and Dave, the City traffic guy, for finally providing Mr. Big safe passage into the park. Could a bicycle boulevard be next?

Thank you also goes out to Ren, who had no idea of my personal crosswalk crusade, but who just happened to be driving by and was blinded by the new crosswalk. Looks like it's already doing it's job. Ren took today's photo, and has others at his blog.

THE END And here is the rest of it.

That is just awesome! Lantz has also done good things for us in the eastside as well. Maybe we should form an organization called the United Bloggers of Pomona, in order to get things done. LOL

Thanks for calling and why didn't they paint all four intersection access points?

Btw, I don't remember where I saw it, but I believe to remove a crosswalk, the city must have a public hearing. If I can figure out where I saw it I will pass on the information. Intuitively, it makes sense.

A crosswalk post is on my to-do-list for the Neighborhood Watch blog, but since I enjoy reading your posts more than mine, do you want to do it for me?

Goddess,

Do you think you can get them to fix all the potholes on Jefferson now?

About the pot holes on Jefferson....
Paula told me personally that the money and order was in place to resurface Jefferson but that was last Autumn.
I can't believe it takes so long for the obvious to be taken care of.
You need to hold onto your teeth going down the street or they will fall out!
Blah.

Yay! The success stories -- however small -- give me a real feeling of hope and pride in our fair city. Stay vocal.

Yea Crosswalk Gods! I have been discovering how many dedicated citizens there are here in Pomona. I, too, encourage everyone to stay vocal. I have to stay anonymous here, but I'll just say that a good place to start is always with your Neighborhood Watch Captain or your City Counsel Rep.

Yes, good! Now I wish the city would make ramps at the curbs there (and other corners that don't have them). They're needed for those of us who struggle with stairs on crutches and wheelchairs. It's bad enough dodging the dreaded tree seed balls that form the gauntlet on Lincoln Park sidewalks...

Today they started the work resurfacing Jefferson Ave and in the process removed some of the just painted crosswalk. Makes sense - - Right?

I will second the motion about painting all four crossing points and installing ramps at the corners.

There are lots of folks in the neighborhood in wheelchairs, or older, or with children which makes the ramp situation a real hardship. We got the ramps on some blocks awhile back, but Jefferson and some of the corners on Lincoln still need them.

Everyone feel welcome to call Dave Nelson as well.
