Events Worth Going to This Weekend

Least you think there's not plenty to do right here in Pomona - with a little C-word thrown in:

Tomorrow, Friday, April 11, 2008, will be the grand opening celebration at the new Claremont Trader Joe's at Indian Hill and Foothill. According to Kristin, the festivities begin at 8:30 a.m., with the Claremont High drum line and speakers from Claremont and Corporate Trader Joe's. The store opens at 9:00 a.m.

Saturday morning, April 12, 2008, will be the Pomona Farmer's Market at Pearl and Garey (that's one block north of Holt, on the west side of Garey.) In addition to the organic and pesticide free fruits and vegies, be sure to check out the hot tamales and Juice-O-Rama. The market runs from early in the morning until 12:30 p.m.

Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the Claremont Youth Musicians Orchestra performs at Bridges Auditorium at 150 E. 4th Street. This event is free and is a great introduction to the orcheestra for children of all ages.

Saturday will also be an open house at the Cal Poly Center for Regenerative Studies and a Sustainability Seminar at the Pomona Regen Home here in Lincoln Park. If you missed our tour of the Center, you should go up there at 9 a.m. this Saturday. Once back at the Regen House, they'll be giving seminars all day. I plan to check it out. See today's photo for times and address information. Thanks to Anduhrew over at Student in Pomona for the head's up on this one.

Saturday will also be the International Festival over at the Quadrangle at Claremont McKenna College. According to "Pride in Garfield Park," this is always an awesome family event, even if it is in Claremont (that's the C word around here). It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and it's free. More info here.

Saturday evening will be the Second Saturday Art's Walk down on Second Street in Pomona. Click here for a map to print out to help guide your way. This is the one night a month that Second Street becomes Pomona's people watching version of the Third Street Promenade. Minus the usual corporately-owned suspect of shops. This month's event will feature the two newly created empty lots down on Second Street.

As for what to do on Sunday: taxes.
THE END

I hope pictures are being taken for those who have to stay home and do other things. lol. Looking forward to a review, I really wanted to attend... I'm a planner, if I don't have at the very least, a weeks notice, I don't go.
