A couple of people have asked me about the vacant lot currently for sale on Towne, immediately south of the 10 freeway. The thought was perhaps doing a large community garden, in conjunction with the dirt strip project. My take on this has been to get the small strip done first, since a bigger project will take longer (and i don't know about anybody else, but I'm growing impatient about the lag time on doing the smaller strip).
I just spoke to Dan, the broker for the vacant property. Dan told me that the strip is owned by an international law attorney who lives overseas. The land has almost been sold twice before, but each time there were issues with the City and access to the back end of the property since Caltrans owns the abutting land. Dan says that this has all been cleared up, and the owner of a successful janitorial service, in business for over 20 years in Pomona, is eager to buy the property.
So, as it turns out, this would not be a good place for a community garden, since a business is about to go in there.
Once it does, however, it sounds like the janitorial service, who Dan said is very excited about opening up there, can be approached about curb appeal. How perfect that a janitorial service will be helping us clean up the Towne.
THE END
